What a fantastic read this was! Ms Carmichael certainly knows how to develop each character and spin a fascinating tale! I could not put this book down as I became very invested in each character’s back-story and had to know what would transpire for each of them. I loved that she set the story in the quaint Vancouver Island town of Campbell River. In my mind that setting was a real bonus! Many plot twists kept it intriguing and piqued my interest right to the end. I highly recommend this read. You won’t be disappointed!

I thoroughly enjoyed the novel 'A Complicated Goodbye' by new author Laurie Carmichael. The main character Rebecca Adams not only survives but thrives as she faces her emotional journey through loss, betrayal and domestic violence. The author does an excellent job of making you hate the antagonist- Olivia Proctor. Hang on tight as the book takes many twists and turns.

A complicated goodbye is a superbly written mystery. This book kept me interested right to the end. The characters are very well developed.
The Sequel- Hiding Amongst the Clouds

  • In my experience, many middle instalments in trilogies are just “filler” and do little to develop the plot or characters. Not so with Hiding Amongst The Clouds. The author does a fantastic job advancing both. Well done Ms. Carmichael! The last several chapters had me reading as quickly as possible and I could not stop until I finished the book. Can’t wait for book #3!
 
  • I was thrilled that Ms. Carmichael decided to write a follow-up sequel to her first novel A Complicated Goodbye. This novel picks up the storyline where the other left off and develops the characters even further. Once again, I could not put this book down anticipating what was going to happen next! The reader is taken from a coastal Vancouver Island community (in the first novel) to a magical mountain resort town with its own interesting history. The plot also includes domestic abuse and how people cope and react to it. One of the characters escapes her abuser by leaving town (with the help of supportive women friends) and another by faking her own death (Pseudocide) – in a desperate attempt at erasing her entire life and starting over. This author also looks at the abuser as victim too and tells their back stories to help us understand how a violent personality is created! All of their stories are intertwined on some level and it is fascinating to see how they weave together and what transpires! I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and highly recommend it!
 
  • Laurie Carmichael’s second novel, the sequel to A Complicated Goodbye, continues the journey after Rebecca Adams plots her murder. It’s a page-turner with many twists and turns, especially when the police suspect that the victim might be alive. Good read

  • I was so pleased when the sequel to " A Complicated Goodbye" came out and it fulfilled all of my expectations. Looking forward to the 3rd book.
